Certains auteurs de livres, bien qu’émanant d’un domaine de compétence parallèle, ont voulu donner leur avis ou apporter leur savoir à la méthode Pilates. La popularité de la méthode Pilates donne envie d’y participer si l’on s’est fait une petite réputation dans la pratique abdominale. Mais n’est pas expert qui veut sans s’être suffisamment informé.

Blandine Calais-Germain

Blandine Calais-Germain (1) l’a fait en 2010 avec Pilates sans risque, co-écrit avec Bertrand Raison, formé initialement au Pilates par Jérôme Andrews. Elle cite aussi d’autres coachs Pilates dans ses sources. C’est la moindre des choses et c’est honorable. Le livre ne parle que des exercices au sol et sur reformer. Ma réserve vient du fait que les exercices montrés et commentés ne sont pas forcément pratiqués comme indiqués dans cet ouvrage. Pour la plupart des risques évoqués, la façon dont j’enseigne la méthode ne présente pas les dangers signalés. L’évocation du danger n’est donc pas universelle. Je dirais que ces conseils peuvent être utiles selon la formation reçue et la pratique du professeur.

Marcel Caufriez

Marcel Caufriez (2) parle en passant du Pilates comme une gymnastique hyperpressive « on y ferait des efforts abdominaux, par définition réputés hyperpressifs (Pilates, crunches, fitball, Sit up, sauts…) page 111 de son ouvrage. Quelles sont ses sources pour le Pilates ? On n’en sait rien. Procès semblant insuffisamment instruit.

Une gymnastique abdominale hyperpressive est celle pousse les organes dans la mauvaise direction, avec une coordination respiratoire inappropriée,  et exerce ainsi une pression dangereuse sur les organes et le périnée. Les risques en sont incontinence, prolapsus et hernies.

Bernadette de Gasquet

A la suite de Blandine Calais-Germain en 2010 avec son Pilates sans risque, Bernadette de Gasquet propose en 2024 du Pilates de Gasquet sans dégâts, mais avec un cran supplémentaire en vendant des stages de formation « Pilates ».  Comme Marcel Caufriez en 2010, elle qualifie le Pilates d’hyperpressif. Un médicament se vend mieux si on déclare le patient malade.

Que le Pilates ne soit pas toujours pratiqué de façon correcte, c’est très possible. Je m’en aperçois régulièrement avec des personnes revendiquant une expérience en Pilates et ne connaissant même pas la règle de l’angle droit des cuisses avec le buste en position Tablette. Les formations sont malheureusement la plupart du temps des boîtes noires en ce qui concerne le produit qu’elles vendent. Cet usage empêche l’achat d’une formation en bonne connaissance de cause. L’absence de transparence n’est pas une bonne règle, tout le monde le sait, elle ne sert souvent qu’à protéger des intérêts.

Toute une littérature Pilates à notre disposition

Les livres de méthode Pilates en français sont peu nombreux et pas forcément clairs sur l’hyperpressivité. Il est toutefois possible pour les personnes désirant faire autorité sur le sujet de façon directe ou indirecte de s’informer vraiment. Le premier tome de la méthode de Moira Stott a été un temps disponible en français. Et si ce n’est en français, on peut consulter l’abondante littérature anglophone sur la méthode Pilates publiée depuis 2001 (4).

Pilates n’est pas une méthode hyperpressive si on la pratique dans les règles de l’art, c’est-à-dire dans les conditions recommandées par Moira Stott depuis 2001, principes explicités par ces trois auteurs à sa suite.

Ces trois auteurs (1, 2, 3) se sont fait une réputation dans les gymnastiques abdominales dites hypopressives. Ce que j’en ai lu, et ce que j’ai pu en tester, les montrent comme des techniques de rééducation ou bien des disciplines s’adressant à des personnes très faibles ou très âgées. Ce ne sont pas des techniques de remise en forme au sens sportif. Elles s’adressent à un public particulier. J’ai fait celui de Bernadette de Gasquet, après avoir lu ses ouvrages, dans son centre de formation à Paris en 2011, espérant des compléments intéressants. La composition des participants à ce stage vient confirmer mon appréciation, nous étions, si je ne me trompe, 15 dont 14 kinésithérapeutes. L’apport de ce stage, relativement au contenu de ses livres, a été en ce qui me concerne quasiment nul, et les exercices terriblement élémentaires. On est très loin de l’efficacité magistrale du Pilates bien pratiqué. Qui non seulement offre une véritable rééducation corporelle, mais y ajoute une remise en forme incomparable.
